How We Determine Graft Count and Donor Sites for Hair Restoration Surgery

When considering hair restoration, one of the most common questions is: How many grafts will I need? The answer varies for every patient and is determined during a personalized consultation with our Doctor. During this assessment, the doctor evaluates your current hair density, pattern of hair loss, scalp elasticity, and long-term goals.

The most reliable donor site is typically the back of the scalp. This area is genetically resistant to balding and offers the healthiest follicles for harvesting. These grafts can then be transplanted to thinning areas on the scalp, or to enhance the beard or eyebrows with natural-looking results.

On surgery day, the procedure usually begins around 7:00 AM. The first few hours focus on harvesting grafts—either individually through FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or via a thin strip in FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). After harvesting, patients enjoy a short 30-minute break before the implantation phase begins. This phase involves meticulous placement of grafts into the target areas to ensure natural direction, density, and aesthetic harmony.

Scarring is minimal with both methods. FUE typically leaves tiny dot-like scars that are virtually undetectable, while FUT may leave a thin linear scar that is easily hidden with hair growth. Most patients report little to no visible scarring and a comfortable recovery.

Our goal is to restore your confidence with a tailored treatment plan, ensuring the graft count and donor strategy are as unique as you are.
